Hall bath is done :)

We are having our first real "get together" this weekend at our house. We are hosting a football party for some family and friends, and decided since we were having company spend the night,we needed to finally finish the bathroom. We managed to get it done quickly, and hope you enjoy the pictures :)

Pic of bathroom before it was primed.Ugly green paneling:

So much better than that green paneling we had :)

Another view with my mom's art :)

To close, for those of you that may not know,I'm an Alabama fan (Roll Tide!) and my husband is a Tennessee fan (his only fault),this is a rough weekend in our house :)We're having lots of yummy food tomorrow and to make it a little more fun, I did this:

Livingroom is DONE!!!

We finally finished the room. Now we're in the process of hanging some paintings (new ones we bought, and my mom's art).I'm trying to find the PERFECT wall sconces to hang on either side of our newest picture since Target and Wal-Mart apparantly don't sell them,so I've been looking online. In times like these,I wish we lived in Birmingham where there are Kirkland's and Hobby Lobby.I will find them, even if I have to order them online and wait for delivery because I have a picture of what I want. Also,I would like to take this time to tell you about something cool I have in the livingroom (you will see a picture of it).I have a friend who sells Scentsy...which are warmers you plug into the wall that use 25 watt bulbs to melt wax bars. The scents are delicious, and will make your whole house smell amazing.Once we get the house done,I'm going to have her come up and we'll do a housewarming party and you can buy whatever you like.If you live out of the area and would like to order something,go to her personal Scentsy page at: www.heatherharlow.scentsy.us/Home

Here's the room before we got the final coat of paint on the walls, and molding/baseboards:

Here is our front door, the trim around it needs some paint:

Our new window frames Buddy installed, need some paint around the trim:

Our decorative hallway casings, looking into the den.You can see the hall color and the beautiful (kidding) pad for our wood floors.

Our new switchplate covers :)

Our new painting we got (and saved almost $100 on),and you can see my Scentsy Milano warmer on the table. They also serve as great nightlights.I have a Christmas type scent in there right now: One cube of Christmas Tree, one cube of Poinsetta Pine:

One of my mom's paintings:

You can see the crown, baseboards, and the wall color with our wood floors.Looks very pretty together....not bad for first time DIY:

Fritz isn't sure what to do with all of the hammering going on :) (excuse my pink toes, and Peace Frog pj's)

Finally got our entertainment center moved in from our garage. Now we don't look redneck using a nightstand to put the tv on,or using a step ladder for our cable box, modem and router :)

Got this sign at Old Time Pottery.Thought the saying was pretty perfect since this is our first house :)

An up close shot of the new picture, and my Scentsy warmer. The box on there is a hope chest of sorts, and was a Christmas gift one year from my awesome mother in law,April. It holds some of my baby pictures and my Scentsy bars :)

Well, that's it for now.I will post more as more gets done!

A few little updates :)

Just a quick update since there hasn't been one in a while. We took a break from house stuff so we wouldn't get burned out. We've managed to get more done than we anticipated (more than I think we/family/friends thought). We're in the process of getting the main stuff done before we have some family up in a few weeks, and before some family/friends who haven't seen the house come over :) We got the first coat of paint done in the livingroom, and I'm so excited to get the second on so I can start hanging art and decorate. After the second coat goes on,we will touch up our crown and put down our baseboards, then the livingroom will be DONE! We also entered a contest with Southeastern Salvage for a $5,000 ugly kitchen makeover. The "before" kitchen who won last time is gorgeous (if we had that before kitchen we would be thrilled),so I feel we have a real chance. We will find out shortly after Halloween, so we're going to hold off on fixing up the kitchen "just in case". Fingers crossed that we win cause that would be so nice. I will update some more as we go. For now, enjoy some pictures!!

Here's the livingroom before we painted:

Here's after. We need one more coat of paint up before I can start decorating (sooo excited about that!) :)

Our new shaggy rug. It has the color of our couch cushions, and the wall color blended in. I was going to get an off-white/brown zebra print rug, but decided this would look better in the long run.

This is our new decorative doorway casings (total for both doorways was $24!!!)

Our hall/den color. This is only the first coat:

This is our guest bed.The blue curtains ARE coming down :) and we will paint the walls to get rid of the paneling look. Also, eventually we will get new carpet for the bedrooms :)

This is our new sink we got for the spare bath. When you sit on the toilet, what we have now is right up against your leg. This will give more room, and it's pretty :) This was originally around $200, we got it for $50, AND it came with a mirror. I will take a picture after we get the tile in there and we install it.

And here's the picture we sent in for the $5,000 ugly kitchen makeover. What do you think? Ugly enough? :)

New pics!

So,Buddy got me a USB device that I can plug my SD card into.So...voila!More pictures of the house.Things are progressing faster than we anticipated, even though it feels like it's taking forever sometimes :) We finally got our sofa and loveseat moved into the livingroom, which was an event!Apparently back in good ole 1953 when our house was built, they had teeny tiny midget furniture. Our doorways and entries into rooms are so small, our furniture BARELY fit.Buddy and I had a heck of a time maneuvering it and pushing/pulling to get it in.But,now we're no longer redneck by using our beach chairs as furniture in there anymore (even though the chairs were handy with the built in cupholders and all). All that is really left in the livingroom is to paint our crown molding, paint and reinstall the baseboards,door/window casings (which are brown wood,we're painting them white)and to paint the walls. That sounds like a lot,but if you really saw what we started with,it's a walk in the park.I will now share some more photos :)

Here is a pic of our new pendant light Buddy installed in the hall.We had a single lightbulb originally (no decorative globe or anything) so this is an improvement.Pendant lighting is actually pretty cheap, and you can make it as long or short as you want.

Here is the den, with the newly painted/spruced up fan Buddy did. It's the original one that was here and has a feature that Buddy thinks is cool:Pull the light cord once and you have a nightlight, pull it twice and regular lights come on.There is a twin in the kitchen.

Here is a pic of a short wall in the den above our security system. This lets you see the crown we got for cheap at a local place.Crown is a PAIN to install,FYI.

Here is our new fan Buddy installed in the livingroom. It's a brushed bronze and very nice (Wal-Mart find).

Here is the crown and a little test area of our paint color to see what it would look like.

Now,onto our floor.Installing was not *that* bad.The first and last rows were the most difficult, but we saved a TON of money by installing it ourselves.I think we did a good job for our first time.(I say we,all I did was guide the floors together.Buddy did the hard stuff like hammering it into place and cutting pieces to fit). The lady/family who lived here must have smoked and had animals. When we ripped the carpet up,the pad STUCK to the concrete subfloor and had stains everywhere. You could smell the tar,and apparently animals could pee wherever they wanted. After scraping the stuck pad up with razors and cleaning heavily,we laid down our padding.

Here's the process.Notice the sticky pad.Yuck!

Here's the livingroom with our sofa and loveseat. We still have to paint, decorate and all of that, but you get the idea.Notice the "redneck" chairs in the background.

Hope you enjoyed! Will post more as we go on :)

Ugly Pics....you were warned

Hello all!I've had some requests about posting some more pics. These are the pics that were taken by the appraiser. All the photos on my camera can't be uploaded because our newer laptop doesn't have a place to put my scandisk card, and I can't find the cord. So, we will have to buy something soon so I can start posting some more pictures. Keep in mind that the house is old, and ugly :) We're getting there, it's a slow, painful process.

Here's the back of the house. We will be a "backdoor house" meaning if we know you,you come straight to the back.If you're a stranger, you come to the front, and we may not answer :)

Here's the kitchen. We'll keep the cabinets since that style is coming back, but we'll paint them a color called black bean and get new hardware.I'm also going to get new laminate countertops from a discount home center here in Jasper. They have everything for CHEAP! :)

Here's the master bedroom, which is the size of most livingrooms. It's HUGE!We'll paint it,and eventually get new carpet for all of the bedrooms :)

And here's what we want to do with the front eventually.Keep in mind that I just did this in the paint application on the computer to get a general idea of what it would look like with white vinyl columns and the railing painted white. We would like to get a new front door and paint it red, as well as some nicer landscaping :)

Keep posted!I will update with some newer pics when I can! :)

Our House

As most of you know,Buddy and I recently purchased our first home. It's an oldie but a goodie (built in 1953).We need to do some updating to it,since it has paneling on every wall, and old tan carpet in every room (yes, even the bathrooms!!)So far, we've had some sheetrock put up in the livingroom, den, and hall....we've chosen to leave the paneling in the 3 bedrooms, and we will just prime & paint. We eventually want to sheetrock the bathrooms (for obvious reasons), and have laid tile in our bath, and will put some in the hall bath.We bought some beautiful laminate flooring for the livingroom, den and hall at Lumber Liquidators for a GREAT price, and will install it ourselves. I will now post some pics, before and after in some of the rooms we've done some work in :)

The before and after pictures for the den and hall look the same as for the livingroom. Stay tuned for more posts/pictures on our progress! :)
